About Us Directions/Map Centenary Calendar What Goes On The Good News Articles Online Sermons Links | The Good News: An Invitation'Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest' Matt 11:28 It has been said that these words deserved to be written in letters of gold. The One who spoke them is the best friend one could ever have. He is our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Before the world was made, He lived in eternity with God. He came down to earth however, to mediate between God and us, because our sin had estranged us from God, and God from us. He lived a sinless life, and died to pay the price of His people's sin. He rose from the dead and now lives for evermore to save those who trust in Him. Notice to whom He speaks in the text...to the labouring and heavy laden. This is very encouraging and full of comfort. We all labour for something...for money or peace, or friends, or happiness. And we're all heavy laden with care or debt, anxieties, sorrow, guilt or fear. He is therefore speaking to us What is He saying? Come to Me, believe in Me, trust in Me, rely on Me, hope in Me. Come to me, as lost to be saved, as dead to be made alive, as guilty to be forgiven, as sinful to be cleansed, as empty to be filled, as poor to be enriched. Come to Him as Saviour, able and willing to save you Come to Him as Lord; wise enough to rule you, strong enough to protect you, resourceful enough to provide for you, loving enough never to leave you nor forsake you. What does He promise us? Rest... rest of conscience, rest of mind, rest of heart, rest from guilt, rest from fear, rest from strife, rest from sin...inward rest, eternal rest. Come to Him now...just as you are, and He 'will give you rest' | ||
